HD Hyundai Robotics Secures Robotic Welding Solution Order from Chouest Group, Entering North American Market

2026-05-08 09:03:30

HD Hyundai Robotics has secured an order for robotic welding solutions from U.S.-based Chouest Group, marking a strategic entry into the North American shipbuilding automation market.

The company announced on May 7 that it signed a contract to supply its robotic welding solution, ArcLift GO, to Chouest Group shipyards, with deployment planned at three shipyards in North America, including Louisiana, and one in Brazil.

This contract represents HD Hyundai Robotics' first automation project in the U.S. shipbuilding sector and serves as a key milestone in expanding its presence in the region. The U.S. shipbuilding industry continues to face a structural shortage of skilled welders, posing challenges to productivity and competitiveness.

In response, HD Hyundai Robotics is implementing a phased automation strategy in which robotic systems complement human labor through technology validation, process optimization, and large-scale deployment, enabling more stable and efficient shipyard operations.

The ArcLift GO solution delivers consistent welding quality while reducing reliance on skilled labor. Built on HD Hyundai's shipbuilding expertise, it features a plug-and-play system and intuitive software, enabling flexible operation across various geometries and environments. It also allows operators with limited experience to manage multiple robots simultaneously.

Amid growing emphasis on automation technologies in the United States--driven in part by policy discussions such as the proposed "Robot Security Act"--demand for advanced automation solutions is increasing. HD Hyundai Robotics noted that the order reflects its ongoing collaboration with U.S. shipyards under this evolving landscape.

Through this project, the company aims to establish a strong reference within the U.S. shipbuilding supply chain by demonstrating its technology in real production environments. Building on this foundation, HD Hyundai Robotics plans to expand its presence across North America while strengthening cooperation with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and advancing smart yard initiatives linked to the MASGA project.

HD Hyundai will also continue to explore broader cooperation opportunities in the United States, integrating shipbuilding expertise with automation and robotics technologies to support the long-term transformation of the global shipbuilding industry.
