Customized Solutions: Develop tailored automation solutions and validate them in real work environments to establish optimal models
Maximizing Synergy: Joint research and development of shipbuilding-specific robotic solutions to strengthen group competitiveness
As the industrial paradigm in shipbuilding and heavy industries rapidly shifts toward smart manufacturing driven by robotics and AI, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Robotics have joined forces.
On the 17th, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries headquarters to collaborate on production process automation and smart factory implementation.
This agreement aims to transform manual processes across shipbuilding operations and align with HD Hyundai's Future of Shipyard (FOS) Project, building an autonomous smart shipyard powered by robotics and AI.
The goal is to combine HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' expertise in production automation with HD Hyundai Robotics' advanced robotic technologies to enhance competitiveness in shipbuilding.
Through this partnership, the companies will co-develop customized solutions applying robotics, vision systems, and AI-based automation to key shipyard production lines. These solutions will be tested and validated in real operational environments, then standardized into optimal process models.
By expanding the application of HD Hyundai Robotics' technologies to shipbuilding sites, the collaboration will deliver greater production stability, efficiency, and tangible results such as improved productivity, shorter lead times, and enhanced quality competitiveness--all essential for realizing smart factories.
Furthermore, leveraging both companies' technological capabilities and infrastructure will enable joint research on new automation technologies and the development of shipbuilding-specific robotic solutions, maximizing group-level synergy.
An HD Hyundai Heavy Industries representative stated:
"Building smart factories goes beyond simple equipment automation--it is a core task to fundamentally strengthen competitiveness in shipbuilding. Through this collaboration, we aim to improve production efficiency and quality competitiveness while setting a new global standard for the shipbuilding industry."
An HD Hyundai Robotics representative added:
"This partnership marks a significant milestone in expanding the application of robotic solutions from manufacturing and logistics to shipbuilding and heavy industries. By applying automation technologies to actual shipyard environments, we will achieve visible results such as productivity gains and shorter construction periods, leading the way in smart manufacturing innovation based on robotics and AI."
The automation and smart manufacturing capabilities secured through this agreement are expected to gradually expand across the group's shipbuilding affiliates, laying the foundation for HD Hyundai to lead the global smart shipyard transformation.
